sga_newsletter a few weeks ago, and I kept seeing mentions of Sparky. I quickly learned that it was the 'ship name for John/Elizabeth. I was curious about its origin (I'm used to names being smushed together, it might sometimes be ugly (Bangel?!?) but at least it's (usually) recognisable, unlike the weird HP 'ship name (Guns and Hancuffs, Pumpkin Pie, Leather and Library )), so I googled it and found out that it was named after the spark between the two characters. And then I laughed for five minutes.
The spark between the two characters? What spark? Sure, Elizabeth does seem to have a crush on John in some episodes, but that's it. I never saw anything more between the two of them. Hell, when I think about Elizabeth in a relationship in Atlantis, and by relationship I mostly mean sex, I think about Grodin, Bates and Ronon. And she could totally have Caldwell, too.
That's also why, when people ask "the big question" about who (Teyla or Elizabeth) Sheppard will end with, I roll my eyes. There have been moments between John and Teyla, but nothing that screams UST to me. I don't even think Teyla sees John that way.
The more I think about it, the more I cannot see John in a relationship on the show. He's...I don't know. Distant, maybe. Kind of untouchable. i can't see him play the love game.
And that's not because I'm a slasher at heart. I love Clex with all my heart, but on the show, I'm waving the Chlark flag. On SGA, though, the only pairings I can really see are Ronon/Teyla and Elizabeth/people-I-have-named-before. No John/anyone, no McKay/anyone. I guess I like the friendship pairings better.
Alright, enough thinking, I'm off looking for another source of recs. Oh, and you should totally read Shielded In My Armour, there's cuddling.
