Thing number one: Scrubs is like the best 30 minutes show ever. More people should watch it and squee with me. There's dancing! And singing! And--and dancing while singing. Did I mention it's also funny? Because it is. And you should all watch it. *nods*
Thing number two: I have finished the first season of SGA.
See, when everyone started to get into SGA, I didn't think much of it. My father used to watch SG-1 and it didn't interest me at all. Then, I started to notice that a lot of authors I liked were starting to write SGA, that's when the show started to annoy me. I also noticed that a lot of great iconers were making SGA icons. (I swear to God, everytime I see an icon that I find extremely beautiful, it's either for SGA or Alias.) That's when I decided that I would never watch the show. Never! Muahahaha! But then, I made a banner for Madelyn and I got to look at pictures of Joe Flanigan, and the man IS pretty. However, I would not be won over just by a pretty face. Nuh-huh. In the end, though, it was the fandom that did it.
You see, I love fandom. I think coming into a new fandom is like exploring a new territory. The people that are just waiting for you to sit down to tell you their stories, the trees with the shiny fruits, that weird green slimy thing that doesn't taste so bad, the wild animals waiting for you to put a foot in the dark forest to jump on you and eat your arm... It's so exciting! And while I did find a couple of new fandoms recently (Supernatural and VM), they both have important factors that keep me from enjoying the new-fandom-feeling. Supernatural is too new, there's not a lot of place to make discoveries yet. As for VM, it's my lack of desire for fics. Don't get me wrong, I love these shows very much, they just don't fill my fannish needs.
I decided to watch SGA for the fandom. I wanted new territories to explore, new fics to read, new art to drool on. I wasn't expecting to love the show, and you know what? I don't. I like it, a lot, but I'm not in love with it. I am, however, completely in love with the characters.
I want to cuddle with Beckett and Zelenka and here them talk all night. I want Sheppard in my bed, for very different reasons. *eg* I want to sit with McKay's Japanese fangirl and watch him work and talk all day. I want to drink a beer with Ford and hear him talk about his grandparents. And I want to sleep with Tayla. She's so warm and peaceful.
Wow, that was a lot of words to say that I'm looking forward to my exploration of the SGA fandom. ^_^

Date: 2006-04-09 10:30 pm (UTC)I'm with you on the discovering new fandoms thing, but it takes me awhile. For example, i'm still watching the first episode of Supernatural. I guess i have to watch one show at a time (or take my time), otherwise i keep going back and forth and end up getting scattered.

Eh, I'm always all over the place. I rarely make time to do something, so I'm always trying to come up with some plans to do everything at once.
