Ugh, fleas

Any thing I should know about getting rid of fleas? I'm about to head out to buy stuff to get rid of the ones on the dogs, and I'll be washing beddings when I come back. I can wash them normally, right? Please tell me fleas can't survive a normal wash cycle.
